"CBT for Pediatric OCD and Related Conditions"

Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Director of Penn’s Child/Adolescent OCD, Tics, Trichotillomania, & Anxiety Group (COTTAGe).

Description of the Program: 

Dr. Franklin will share the latest research findings on pediatric obsessive compulsive disorder, trichotillomania, and Tourette Syndrome. He will also discuss how to implement cognitive behavioral therapy to treat these conditions. Dr. Franklin will outline the similarities and differences between OCD, trichotillomania, and Tourette Syndrome and the impact these have on treatment approaches.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Learn about the current empirical status of CBT for pediatric OCD and related conditions.

2. Learn about the implementation of CBT for these conditions.

3. Learn about similarities and differences between these disorders which influence clinical care.

Martin Franklin, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennyslvania School of Medicine and Director of Penn’s Child/Adolescent OCD, Tics, Trichotillomania, & Anxiety Group (COTTAGe). Over the past two decades Dr. Franklin has conducted clinical research projects on OCD, trichotillomania, Tourette Syndrome, and related disorders across the developmental spectrum. He is currently PI on two active NIMH-funded randomized controlled trials in pediatric OCD and pediatric trichotillomania, and has recently completed multi-center studies of CBT for Tourette’s Disorder in adolescents and for youngsters with OCD who have experienced a partial response to pharmacotherapy. He continues to be active clinically in providing CBT for OCD and related conditions.

PBTA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. PBTA maintains responsibility for this program and its content. PBTA is also an authorized provider for Continuing Education credits for Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists and Clinical Social Workers licensed in the state of Pennsylvania.  CE credits are free for PBTA members ($25 for non-members).  Number of CE Credits Offered: two (2).
